Song of Blades and Heroes Batrep: Space Marines vs Marro

I've been adapting Sci Fi minis to the Song of Blades and Heroes game. Ganesha Games offers and has in production other games that allow for a "crunchier" experience, but I also like quick and simple.

Today's battle features 429 points of "Howling Griffon" Space Marines:

Commander: Q2 C3, Leader, Shooter Med, Power Armour (heavy armor)- 93 Points
2x Assault Squad: Q3 C4, Shooter Long, Power Armour, Jump Pack (long move)- 160 Points
4x Tactical Squad: Q3 C3, Shooter Med, Power Armour- 176 Points

vs 438 Points of Marro:
Ne Gok Sa: Q3 C4, Leader- 70 Points
5x Marro Warriors: Q3 C3, Shooter Med- 190 Points
3x Drudge: Q4 C2, Amphibious, Shooter Short- 69 Points
Eradicator: Q4 C5, Short move, Shooter Med- 39 Points
Claw: Q3 C4, Tough- 70 Points

The armies start in opposite corners, with a glyph placed in each empty corner. An army may win in one of two ways: Destroy the enemy or Take control of both glyphs and hold them through three opponents' turns.

The Marro take the first turn. The Marro split, with some moving toward the glyph on their side of the river, others move toward the bridge. Meanwhile, the amphibious Drudge cross the river toward the glyph on the far side of the battlefield.

As the Howling Griffons move forward, a Marro Warrior knocks down an Assault Squad, but he Space Marines keep coming.

As the Marro continue to roll failures early in their turns, the Howling Griffons take up positions in key locations. Boosted by their jump packs, the fast-moving Assault Squad claim both glyphs.

The Marro attempt to dislodge the Assault Squad on the nearest Glyph, but his Power Armour turns the blow. The Howling Griffons move squad members in defensive positions and prepare to hold back the Marro until a Marro Warrior lands a lucky shot and kills the Howling Griffon Leader.

The subsequent Morale rolls prove disastrous for the Howling Griffons. With the squad members set up to defend the glyphs in the corners, they are too close to the edge. Three Tactical Squad members run off the edge of the table, leaving the Howling Griffons with three men left to take on the full complement of the Marro  army.

The Marro close in, and though the Howling Giffons fight valiantly, the weight of the Marro numbers quickly wears down the defenders. They soon claim the glyphs

And the final Howling Griffon is killed.

The Marro win an overwhelming victory, with only one Drudge dead and two units knocked down.

  1. Sounds a bit preposterous for Space Marines to flee once their Leader is slain. Don't Space Marines have that ability where they instantly Regroup if they fall back (in WH40K of course). Is there an ability in SoBH that could mimic that instant Regroup? Just an idea.

  2. Great! Marvellous battle report. I believe that MDRG is a better game for SCIFi that SOBH. But this this adjustmentis very well.
    I would use these skills:
For all space marines: Fearless ("and they shall know no fear")
    For Jump Pack: Flying.
